Jammu, Nov 06 (KNO): The supporters of National Conference (NC) on Wednesday celebrated the passing of a resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, seeking the restoration of special status to J&K.
As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu, NC leaders and supporters led by its Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta distributed sweets among the workers. The celebrations were marked with fire crackers and beating of drums.
The NC leaders in Jammu termed the resolution as a step towards achieving the party's poll manifesto for restoring the special status of J&K, which was unilaterally snatched on August 5, 2019 by the central government by trimming J&K into two union territories.
“NC in its poll manifesto had promised to restore the dignity of people of J&K by fighting for Statehood and bringing the special status back. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s first cabinet meeting passed a resolution for statehood and the first resolution of the new government is to get back special status, which proved that NC is committed to represent the aspirations of people,” Rattan Lal Gupta said.
He further said that the entire J&K is celebrating this day and they thank Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, for moving this resolution.
He said the party is fulfilling the aspiration of people and it is committed to protect the land and jobs for the natives of Jammu & Kashmir.
Gupta further added that J&K Assembly represents the sentiments of people and “I hope the central government take note of it and restore the statehood and also grant us back the special status.”—(KNO)
